I recently realized that my grandpa, Robert V. Fifer, is listed on Fold3.

Family Photo Friday
Growing up, I attended the Inchelium Community Church
in Inchelium, Ferry County, Washington, USA.
I am very thankful that my mom, B. Jill (Dyck) Fifer,
made sure that my sister & I were raised in a faith community.

childhood epilepsy?
I just had a conversation with one of my grandmas and one of my parents about seizures that an aunt/uncle had as a child. I am being a bit evasive in order to protect this (living) relative's privacy. (You will note that I have not "tagged" this post with a last name.) However, I wanted to document the conversation for later reference.
My parent & grandmother remember my grandfather (who would get up very early each morning) turning on the lights, waking my parent & grandmother up. Both my parent & grandmother state that my aunt/uncle was having a grand-mal (tonic-clonic) seizure. According to my parent & grandmother, my grandparents proceeded to put everyone (my aunt/uncle, my parent, & themselves) into the car to go to the hospital.
Both my parent & grandmother recall this as being a frightening experience. My parent remembers my aunt/uncle making gasping noises & (while in the car) hearing my grandmother telling my grandfather "watch [her/his] tongue." (I assume that my grandmother was driving.)
According to my grandmother, my aunt/uncle had previously had occasional "accidents" during the night, which promptly ceased once my aunt/uncle was placed on medication for the seizures. My aunt/uncle's seizures only happened during the night or in the early morning while my aunt/uncle was sleeping or just waking up & had apparently had had some previous seizures (causing the "accidents") without anyone even knowing it.
My aunt/uncle remained on medication until she/he was in her/his 20's, at which point she/he decided to stop. My aunt/uncle has not had seizures as an adult, although she/he had several more during childhood.

I just finished a photo book
- Robert & Virginia's home along Lake Roosevelt -
for Grandma Virginia.

She's been living in Spokane County for the last [approximately] 2 years.
I know that she misses Ferry County; I hope that this helps.

genealogy books mentioning my family members
In my Dec 31, 2012 post (an 1850 census, an obit transcription, family notes, cemetery listings, & Google Books), I mentioned using Google Books for genealogy. I had been at Grandma Virginia's & had gotten ahold of some wonderful papers, which I scanned.
I have since discovered another book using Google Books: Peter and Elisabeth (Graber) Kaufman family record, 1770-1987 by the Kaufman Genealogy Committee (1988). What is so neat about Google Books is the "from inside the book" feature. I was able to see myself, my sister, & my parents names! We're in a published book! (Also listed are Dyck & Schrag names which I know are part of my family tree.)
I will have to get a copy of this book to assist me in making my family tree!

USGenWeb & Menno Mennonite Cemetary
I have spent the past few hours organizing my newspaper "to research" list,
which has included typing a list of articles that I wish to scan
& searching (via Google) for as many articles as I can online.
As I was doing this, I [repeatedly] came across the USGenWeb Archives.
-----
The two specific links that I will be using in the future are:
usgwarchives.net/wa/wafiles.htm &
www.wagenweb.org.

One thing that I just came across was
(also known as Schrag Cemetery)
Ritzville, Adams County, Washington.

You will notice that I included the "Whiteside" name in tags.
This is because the name is mentioned,
not because there is a Whiteside buried at the Menno Mennonite Cemetery.

Washington State Provider Credential Search
I can't believe that it hasn't occurred to me to share this before:
Provider Credential Search at the Washington State Department of Health
could be a valuable research tool.
(As a matter of fact, I've used it quite a bit myself!)
